PerformancePoint Services Issues

Problem:

When trying to click on “Run Dashboard Designer, it tries to download the PerformancePoint Dashboard designer which is to be expected. The application downloads after click that .Exe file we are getting the following error occurs.

“Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact applications vendor for assistance.”

Solution: In the Internet Explorer 9, I have done following things to solve the issue.

 1.       Turn on pop-up blocker in the Internet Browser Settings.

2.       Remove the proxy server in the Internet Browser Settings.

After that we need to click it on “Run Dashboard Designer”. You may be prompted to run an application, don’t be alarmed, this is actually the install for Dashboard Designer.  It takes just a minute or so to complete and once finished Dashboard Designer will open.

Now that Dashboard Designer has been installed you can open it from the Start menu.  Click on All Programs, expand the SharePoint folder, and click on PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer.  Make sure you expand the “SharePoint” folder and not the “Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products” folder.

Problem:

Using PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer connecting to SharePoint Lists on the SharePoint Server. The screenshot below shows what I mean. I have told Dashboard designer to use a SharePoint list as a data source on a site called http://samplesite.

But when you try this for the first time, a common complaint is to see an error message like the one below.
Checked the Event Logs under Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application, and saw the message
EventLog:
The following data source cannot be used because PerformancePoint Services is not configured correctly.
Data source location: http://samplesite/sites/BISite/Data Connections for PerformancePoint/2_.000
Data source name: SharePointList
The PerformancePoint Services Unattended Service Account is not set. The setting is located in "Manage service applications" in SharePoint Central Administration under the PerformancePoint Services management page.
Solution:
Reason: An Unattended Service Account has to be defined in the Secure Store Application on the SharePoint. This account is used to make connections to data sources.
Fix: It is kind of self-explanatory. The Dashboard Designer cannot connect to the data source because the Unattended Service Account has not been defined for PPS. Here is what you need to do:
1. Go to the SharePoint Central Admin site
2. Make sure the Secure Store is setup and started
3. Click under Application Management -> Manage Service Applications -> PerformancePoint Service Application
4. Click PerformancePoint Service Application Settings
5. Defined the Unattended Service Account and its properties

Once this is done, make sure the Unattended Service Account used above has permissions on the data source.
