Reset the search index in SharePoint 2013

When we reset the search index in SharePoint server, all the crawled content will be vanished immediately for the search index. So that users cannot get the search results. After resetting the search index, we have to do full crawling from the content sources in the server for new search index. After finishing the full crawl new search index will be created to get the search results for the users.
To reset the search index we must check that we are not running the search service application backup and need have a full crawled search index and the account performing the reset must have administration credentials for search service application. After resetting the index, we need to perform the full crawl and re enable the search results.  To reset the search index,
Navigate to Application Management page in Central Administration and click on Manage Service Applications link.​


Click on the search service application to reset the search index.

Verify Administrative status of the search service application is Running or paused in Search Administration page System Status section.

Click on Index Reset in left side crawling section in Search Administration page.
In Index reset page check Deactivate search alerts during reset check box is checked, click on Reset Now.
Click on OK button in the confirmation dialog box to confirming index reset.
